Everything in one app

From "invoice sent" to "money in"
without touching a spreadsheet

Every invoice you raise and every receipt you snap becomes a proper digital record automatically. Get paid faster, claim more, and have your tax figures ready before the deadline comes round.

📄

Professional invoices in seconds

Branded invoices with your logo, automatic numbering, VAT support and CIS deductions for subcontractors. Know instantly who's paid and who's overdue.

💳

Get paid by card

Your invoice arrives with a Pay now button. The client taps, pays by card, and the invoice marks itself paid — money straight to your own account. No Go Books fees.

👀

See when they've opened it

Know the moment your client views the invoice, with a timestamp. No more wondering whether it landed — or whether "I never got it" is true.

🔔

Chases the late payers for you

Polite automatic reminders before the due date, on the day, and after — switched on or off per invoice. It stops the moment they pay. Never chase again.

📸

Snap receipts, we do the rest

Photograph any receipt or bill. Our AI reads the supplier, date, amount and VAT, files it under the right HMRC category, and keeps the image as your digital record. One tap to confirm.

📝

Quotes that turn into invoices

Send a professional quote, see when it's opened, and let the client accept or decline online with a signature. Accepted? One tap turns it into an invoice — nothing retyped.

📑

Statements in one tap

Send any client a clear statement of account — what's paid, what's outstanding, what's overdue — with a Pay now button on every open invoice.

🏗️

Built for CIS subcontractors

CIS deductions calculated on every invoice, so what you're owed after deductions is right first time — and your year-end figures already account for tax taken at source.

📤

Upload invoices — even handwritten ones

Already invoiced through Stripe, on paper, or another app? Upload a photo, PDF or a whole stack at once. Our AI reads each one and drops it straight into your income — no re-typing.

Filing coming soon
🏛️

Quarterly figures, without the panic

Your cumulative totals build themselves as you work, in HMRC's own format. Direct filing to HMRC is coming soon — your figures will be ready to send the moment it goes live.

🏦

Connect your bank

Read-only bank feeds match incoming payments to invoices and spot business expenses you forgot to claim — the ones that quietly shrink your tax bill.

🧮

VAT returns, built automatically

VAT registered? Your 9-box return assembles itself from your invoices and receipts, ready for submission. Not registered? You'll never see a VAT field.

📦

Hand it all to your accountant

Year-end in one click: a complete tax-year pack that imports straight into Xero, QuickBooks or Sage — invoices, expenses by category, bank transactions and your receipt images.

🗓️

Not on quarterly filing yet?

Annual mode gives you a copy-ready Self Assessment summary mapped to the actual SA103F boxes, a 31 January countdown, and a one-tap switch to quarterly when your time comes.

📊

Know where you stand, always

A live estimate of the tax you owe so far, your penalty-point balance, and deadline reminders before things become urgent. No nasty surprises in January.

🔍

"Am I affected by MTD?"

A free 60-second checker tells you exactly when Making Tax Digital applies to you — April 2026, 2027, 2028 or not yet — in plain English.

📱

Built for the van, not the office

Camera-first mobile design. Capture a receipt in the merchant's doorway, send an invoice from the job, check your tax position at the kitchen table.

How it works

Three habits. That's the whole system.

1

Invoice your customers

Raise and send invoices from the app. Every invoice is already a compliant digital income record — no re-typing anything anywhere.

2

Snap your receipts

Coffee with a client, diesel, materials — photograph the receipt and confirm the suggestion. Ten seconds, filed forever.

3

Your figures are always ready

Income, expenses and tax owed, totted up as you go in HMRC's format — ready for your accountant, your Self Assessment, or direct filing when it launches.

Joining part-way through the year?

Behind on your paperwork?
Catch up in an afternoon.

Start using Go Books in October and you're not starting from zero. Our guided catch-up brings your whole tax year up to date — so your figures are right from day one, no spreadsheet required.

📤

Upload your past invoices

Drop in a whole stack — Stripe exports, PDFs, photos, even handwritten ones. AI reads each and adds it to your income.

🧾

Upload your past receipts

Snap or upload the shoebox of receipts. Each becomes a categorised expense, with the image kept as your record.

🏦

Pull 90 days from your bank

Connect your bank and import recent transactions to catch anything you missed — read-only, never any access to move money.

A simple progress tracker shows your year-to-date income and expenses filling in as you go — so you always know you're caught up before the deadline.

Questions

Asked a lot. Answered honestly.

What actually is Making Tax Digital?
It's HMRC's new way of running Income Tax. Instead of one annual Self Assessment, you keep digital records of income and expenses and send HMRC a short update every quarter, plus a final declaration after year end. It became mandatory in April 2026 for sole traders and landlords earning over £50,000, with lower thresholds following in 2027 and 2028.
Do I need software for this? Can't I just use HMRC's website?
HMRC doesn't provide software for MTD quarterly updates — the rules require you to keep digital records and submit through compatible software. Go Books keeps those digital records for you today, in HMRC's format. Direct filing to HMRC is coming soon (our recognition is in progress); in the meantime your figures export straight to your accountant or your Self Assessment. Our free eligibility checker tells you when the rules apply to you.
What does it cost?
Go Books Lite is free forever — unlimited invoices, card payments, 10 AI receipt scans a month and your live tax position. Go Books Pro is £9/month or £90/year and adds automatic chasing, open tracking, unlimited scans, bank feeds, VAT returns and the year-end accountant pack. Founding members joining before direct HMRC filing launches pay £5/month locked for 24 months. We never take a cut of your card payments.
Can I still use an accountant?
Of course. Go Books keeps everything organised and exportable, so if you use an accountant they'll get cleaner records and charge you less time. But it's designed so that a straightforward sole trader doesn't need one.
Is my data safe?
Yes. Everything is encrypted in transit and at rest, HMRC access uses HMRC's own login (we never see your password), bank access — when it launches — is strictly read-only, and your data is exportable and deletable on request. Tax records are kept in line with HMRC's record-keeping requirements.
